Day Three
By Andrew Fearn
Day three started with a steep 1k climb out of Pontedeume and this was to set the tone for a challenging days walking. The terrain was delightful; mainly on paths and lanes but also lots of (what became known as) uppies and downies.
We met our Aussie friends after a few miles and stopped for a quick chat. It seemed that they had thought that we were both “pastors “ but it was explained that I was a layman but the bishop was…well, a bishop. One of the Aussie ladies exclaimed, “are you a bloody bishop?” (This is best related in an Aussie accent).
Anyway, our respective status established, we moved on and left them to their buen Camino.
A welcome open air cafe provided elevensies in the shape of freshly squeezed orange juice and delicious cake. Happy days!
The walk was marked, once again, by cheery waves and kindness punctuated by cries of buen Camino. Once or twice we had to be re-directed back on to the path by kindly angels but generally pressed on to our destination of Betanzos where, happily, the traditional cold beer awaited .
Sunday, to Bruma, is even longer……
