Bring your imagination and creativity, and join us for an afternoon of arts and crafts.
Local artist, Rachel Scanlon will be working with children and young people from the local community to create a giant book for the re-opening of St Mary Magdalene.
Once finished, the Big Book will be used for storytelling and play!

Going Underground: An Exploration of Nottinghamshire’s Subterranean Spaces
Overview
This talk will examine Nottinghamshire’s underground spaces – including caves, crypts, cellars, reservoirs, dungeons, tunnels and mines. Illustrated with a wealth of personal anecdote and experience, it will shine a light on the history of these fascinating places, the way that they have been used over time and the people who have loved and been inspired by them.
Bio
Dave Mooney is a writer and musician. He has written several books about Nottinghamshire, and regularly gives talks on folklore and street music. He also works as a tour guide at Nottingham’s famous City of Caves attraction.

Heritage Open Days: The Timber Framed Buildings of Nottinghamshire
While St Mary’s is closed for conservation works, we have been considering our place in historic Newark, and taking a closer look at the buildings that surround us. This year, we invite you to an illustrated talk by Jason Mordan of Notts County Council based on the 2005 publication of the same title. Nottinghamshire has a wealth and wide variety of oak ‘Timber-frame buildings’ including a cluster of fascinating examples in Newark. This talk will examine the tree-ring dating of many of these and explore their interesting aspects.
